Introducing the OAA: Beginning of 'AndroMotive' Era
Some
of the leading automakers and tech companies are bringing their forces together
to form an OAA (Open Automotive Alliance). This alliance consists of Google, Audi, GM, Honda, Hyundai and nVidia, and will bring a coalition of technology and automobiles.
Google
wants to extend the success of Android, which is being used by over a billion
phones today, with this automotive alliance. These giants together, have aimed to
bring an android platform vehicle to reality by the end of 2014. The alliance
has already been in touch with National Highways Traffic Safety Association
(NHTSA) to make sure the system is safe for in-car use. The dream of Google is
to bring up the best of Android into a vehicle in a safe and seamless
manner. This open development model and common platform will allow automakers to
more easily bring cutting-edge technology to our lives.
But,
these car makers are not choosing just one partner. Google has to face a tough
competition. Honda has already shaken hands with Apple, while, Chevrolet (GM’s
division) is also going along with Apple for its 2015 lined up cars. Some cars
are now appearing with integration of Apple’s "Siri eyes Free" application. Now Google has to
battle with many other tech leaders for dashboard
dominance.
Will
it be a revolutionary change for in-car infotainment and our dashboards?
Let us wait and
watch...
