Mercedes-Benz F 015 Luxury in Motion | A Futuristic Vision

Mercedes unveiled a new concept car at the CES this year; the Mercedes-Benz F 015 Luxury in Motion which is a dream car in the fully original sense. ‘Luxury in Motion’ is a part of its name.

The F 015 is powered by two rear-mounted electric motors with a total peak output of 272 horsepower (and a sustained output of 163 hp). The rear-wheel-drive F 015 is said to reach to 62 mph in 6.7 seconds, while its top speed is 125 mph. A hydrogen fuel cell generates electricity  and a high-voltage battery can provide short bursts of additional power.

The F 015’s body structure is composed of aluminum, high-strength steel, and composite materials—including carbon fiber. The “monolithic” shape of the F015 features a blurred division between the body and the windows which is possibly inspired by Bertone’s classic Lancia Sibilo concept.

The F 015 Luxury in Motion communicates with its surroundings both visually and acoustically. The front and rear are equipped with large LED displays as well as a laser projection system which are directed toward the front and are responsible for the visual part, while the acoustic communication system includes both sounds and specific spoken instructions.

The Benz-F 015 is 205.5 inches long and 79.4 inches wide and stands 60.0 inches tall. The F 015 is attractively huge and shall offer far more interior space than any current luxury car. The F 015 rests on a 142.1-inch wheelbase and rolls on 26-inch wheels, which help to balance the proportions of this luxury concept.

The luxurious concept car features doors that open 90 degrees, as well as a B-pillarless aperture. The cabin features four lounge chairs that can swivel around; the surroundings of the cabin are an exercise to bring a future perspective into the car and sensual beauty clad in extremely soft ice-white nappa leather and lined with open-pore walnut wood, metal, and glass trim. The occupants will have plenty of opportunity to enjoy their environment, as the F 015 is designed to showcase a vision of autonomous driving. One core feature of the innovative interior is a continuous exchange of information between vehicle, passengers and the outside world. Six displays are installed to this end all around, innovatively mounted in the instrument panel and the rear and side walls, making the interior of the F 015 Luxury in Motion a digital living. Passengers can interact with the connected vehicle by means of gestures or by touching the high-resolution screens. It is equipped with a plethora of stereo cameras and radar sensors, with which the car constantly monitors its surroundings, and it is fully capable of driving without any human input. However, the driver can take command at any point, if desired.

The list of futuristic technologies is virtually eternal. The F 015 provides a 360-degree view outside; it has the ability to make travel even more interesting by projecting scenery onto the interior walls. Further, being always online, it can communicate with the outside world.

One of the most amazing features of the F 015 is that once the F 015 has delivered its occupants to their destination, it could simply take off and find its own parking spot which would potentially be well out of the city, in order to keep high-population zones free of excessive traffic.

The F 015 has a total range of 1,100 kilometres inclusive of 200 kilometres of battery-powered driving and around 900 kilometres on the electricity produced from the fuel cell. This makes the F 015 Luxury in Motion similar to comparable diesel-engined cars which can cover same distances, but the F 015 covers this distance purely on electric power with zero local emissions.
