BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage Concept Unveiled
BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke) is one of the most reputed
and technologically advanced automotive company in the world. With its constant
advancement in the R&D sector BMW is always willing to constantly unveil
its new breathtaking concept cars to the people.
Recently, BMW unveiled its all
new concept car the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage. CSL stands for “Coupe Sport Leichtbau" (coupé, sport, lightweight)
this is a tribute to its predecessor the 1970’s 3 series BMW coupe. The new
sports car unveiled with entire carbon fiber chassis is extremely lightweight
yet a powerful vehicle (200 kg lighter than its predecessor).
The BMW CSL is a tribute to the
all time classic 3.0 CSL. The
concept of the vehicle is based on the all time favorite BMW M4 and comes with
a 3 litre straight-six enormous petrol engine with an additional ‘e-boost’
electric motor under the hood, that provides it enough horses to propel the car
and give it a very powerful feel. The new Hommage has an impressive front look
with BMW’s authentic kidney shaped grille and the aggressive LED headlights of
the car. The styling cues however are the same as the earlier model. The frame
of the hommage is based on an aerodynamic platform with huge wheel arches
channeling the airflow towards the rear of the vehicle, giving it a streamlined
sporty look. There are several tech-frenzy stuff embedded on the exterior of
the car including small rear-view cameras acting as side-view mirrors of the
car, with LED taillights and 21-inch Alloy wheels offering a unique,
distinctive look to the car.
The
interior of the hommage continues the same legacy as its exterior. The two sporty
bucket seats with contrast stitching and instrument cluster gives it a charming
appeal. Since the car is entirely made up of Carbon Fibre few carbon elements
are seen in the interior of the car as seen on the M and I series variants.
A particular
detail of the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage is the roofline, subdivided into three
segments, the line recalls the distinctive upper section of the BMW 3.0 CS –
one of the first coupés to feature a roof that did not flow into the tail. In
keeping with the BMW 3.0 CSL, the Hommage features a BMW logo on each of the
C-pillars. The all-round shoulderline is also the starting point for the
subtle, finely sculpted surfaces of the sides.
With all its
technological advanced stuff and breathtaking appeal, the Hommage is still a concept
car and will not be a production car. As quoted, no design feature of the
Hommage would be seen in the upcoming production models of the company. The 3.0 CSL Hommage is the third in the Hommage range
from BMW, following on from the M1 Hommage from 2008 and the 328 Hommage which
celebrated the 75th anniversary of the 328 racer in 2011.
