All You Need To Know About The Upcoming New Mahindra TUV300
Mahindra are the most reputed Indian
car manufacturers in the country and with the latest advances and back to back
3 new launches in this year it has created a buzz amongst the Indian buyers.
Recently, Mahindra officially named their
smallest SUV code named U301 as the TUV 3-double-Oh (TUV300). In continuation to their product line ups which have their name ending
with O. Mahindra is all set to launch their new compact SUV in the month of
September in the Indian market.
Talking about the new SUV, Mahindra
states that the company has used a battle tank as the inspiration for the new
TUV300 that boasts of raised shoulders, high front nose, flat roof, a straight
bonnet and high ground clearance. The automaker further states that the TUV300
gets tough and rugged DNA of Mahindra vehicles and has been designed & developed at their in-house facility in Chennai. Certain design and engineering inputs though have
come from the Italian design house of Pininfarina. There is a hint of
the Bolero at the front but Mahindra executives clarified that the TUV is not a
replacement for the Bolero. Rather, the TUV300 will be an addition to
Mahindra’s line-up of SUVs and will be pitched as a compact SUV for city based
customers. The TUV300 would also be equipped with a touch screen
infotainment display in the top end variant.
As for as the mechanicals go, Mahindra also
announced that the TUV300 will use a new engine. The unit will be based on
Mahindra’s mHawk motor and has been christened mHawk80. The sub-4 metre SUV will
come with the 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder mHawk diesel engine that produces a total
power output of 100 BHP and will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The
Mahindra TUV300 is a compact version of the Mahindra Bolero, but not a
replacement of the Bolero and will be sold alongside the SUV.
Moreover, Mahindra is also expected to launch the AMT and AWD versions later this year, But the TUV300 will not come in 4WD. This year, Mahindra has already launched its upgraded Mahindra XUV500. The new SUV, is expected to be based on the new ladder-on-frame chasis. It is expected to have a boxy design with a tail gate spare wheel along with swept-back clear lens headlamps, rectangular fog lamps, roof rails and 5-spoke alloy wheels.The Mahindra TUV300 is expected to be a 7-seater. Mahindra is expected to bank heavily on the compact Bolero's mileage to make a dent in the market.
The TUV300 will compete in the Indian market in the compact SUV segment with the cars like the Renault Duster, Ford Ecosport, Nissan Terrano and the recently launched Hyundai Creta.
