Maruti Wagon R AMT, Stingray AMT Launched, Also Get Airbags and ABS

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) has launched its WagonR and Stingray hatchbacks models with Auto Gear Shift (AGS) technology, as well as the option of front airbags and ABS. The WagonR and Stingray are offered with AGS technology in the VXi variants, at Rs. 4.77 lakh and Rs. 4.99 lakh, ex-showroom New Delhi, respectively. Meanwhile, the driver and co-driver airbags, and ABS will be offered as an option across all variants of WagonR and Stingray.

AGS technology, also known as Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) is equipped with an electric-hydraulic actuator that automatically performs clutch and shift operations. It combines the actuator and controller, and mounts them directly in the transmission in order to unify the working components, allowing for synchronised control over the clutch, shifting, and engine. The shifting time is also shortened as compared to conventional automatic transmissions, the company noted.

The Maruti Suzuki WagonR and Stingray feature a 1-litre K-next petrol engines, which help the cars return a claimed fuel efficiency of 20.51 km/l, same as the manual transmission. The company recently reported that sales of its vehicles equipped with AGS technology have crossed 50,000 units, since being launched in the Celerio in February, 2014.
