Tata Zica Review And Comparison
Tata Motors, a well established Indian automotive brand, has been trying to make a mark in the small car segment for many years now. Recently, Tata revealed its all-new compact hatchback the Zica.
The new hatchback is based on the same X0 platform as the original Indica but has been styled by the company’s European Technical Centre ensuring little is common between the two cars except for the pedal box and engine firewall. Tata Motors new design team has started from a fresh sheet of paper to create a car that has a completely new profile and face, though some of the company's lineage is still visible in things like the grille design.
The Zica’s design is as contemporary as a modern day hatchback can get. The slim bonnet, aerodynamic rooflines and clean tight shut lines. A sharp sloping bonnet means that the Zica gets a sharp nose; and with Tata Motors trademark black honey-comb grille, the car gets a smiling face.
The interiors of the Zica are a big enhancement from the past too. The car has been loaded with various features. It has up to 22 storage places within the cabin, which tucks or carries all bottles and cups. The Zica comes with the same Harman multimedia system as seen in the Bolt and the Zest. In addtion, Zica comes with reverse parking sensors, power windows, a multi-function instrument cluster and many more segment first additional features.
The Tata Zica comes with a choice of petrol and diesel engine, both being three-cylinder units. The petrol engine is a 1,199cc engine that develops 84bhp and 114Nm of torque, while the diesel engine is a 1,047cc powerhouse that produces 69bhp. Both engines are paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The petrol variant of the Zica is expected to return around 20km/l and the diesel variant is expected to return around 25km/l mileage.
.
As far as safety is concerned the Zica comes with dual airbags in the top varient. Anti-lock braking system (ABS), EBD and corner stability control - a segment first. The expected price of the Tata Zica is around Rs. 3.50 lakhs to Rs 4.0 lakhs (ex-showroom).
